Corner beads are used in render and plaster systems mainly for the following reasons:

- they reinforce and protect the protruding wall corners so as to avoid their breaking and chipping

- they give an aesthetically nice, clean and shapp finishing for the corners.

So it's both aesthetics and functionality.

Corner beads for plaster / render systems are made usually from PVC or galvanized steel.

The former are used for external applications and internally in basements and wet rooms.

Those from galvanized steel are used in typical, internal applications.
